The Nintendo Switch is region free, which means it’s easier than ever to play Japanese games to help with your language study! But while importing the games may be easy, deciding what titles are best-suited to aid your language learning can be hard. To help you out, I’ve compiled a list of the best Japan-only Nintendo Switch game releases for Japanese learners!

Rainbow Alpacasso Review
Hello and welcome to what very well might be my first plushie review! Tokyo Otaku Mode was kind enough to send me one of their official Amuse plushies to review, but I had no idea which one I would get… Well, the cat’s out of the bag since you’ve read the title of this post, but I was thrilled to find a big rainbow Alpacasso inside my Tokyo Otaku Mode box! Check out my unboxing video to see what other fun things they included in the package:
First Impressions: Toraware no Paruma (Imprisoned Palm)
Toraware no Paruma (囚われのパルマ, or “imprisoned palm”) is the first mobile otome game from Capcom, and an ambitious one at that. The game centers around your interactions with and observation of the male character Haruto, who is imprisoned after a “certain incident” that he has no memories of. In fact, he has no memories of anything, and you’ve been transported to the island where he’s being held captive to act as his counsellor and try to find some answers.
August Tenso Haul: Otome Games and Pokémon Merch
After my first experience using Tenso to forward packages from Japan to Australia a year ago, my buying habits have drastically changed. No more pining away for products that can’t be shipped overseas – now I can order them and have them shipped to me for a reasonable fee with Tenso! I say “reasonable” because if you’re not careful, the cost can shoot up very quickly… But after forwarding a few packages, I think I have a pretty good handle on how to make the most of it. Today I’ll be sharing my most recent haul as well as some tips on using Tenso I’ve learned along the way!
July 2016 Favorites: Donuts and Planning
Welcome my newest monthly feature, Chic Pixel Favorites! I’ve seen a lot of bloggers and video creators do monthly roundup posts/videos of their favorite things, and it’s always really appealed to me as a great way to concisely share what’s tickling your fancy at any given time. But I’ve never actually gotten around to trying it myself… Until now!
Since I’m entering the absolute worst crunch time for my thesis (review in October! Ack!), there have been a lot of things lately that I’m enjoying that I just don’t have time to devote full posts to that I still would like to share. I like you enjoy it – since this is the start of a brand new series, your feedback would be greatly appreciated! Well, without further ado, here goes my very first Chic Pixel Favorites!
Swooning Over: Odin Sphere Leifthrasir Famitsu DX Edition
Odin Sphere is one of the most gorgeous games I’ve ever played, so of course I was thrilled when I learned about Odin Sphere Leifthrasir‘s super special (and super exclusive) Famitsu DX Edition. So thrilled, in fact, that I paid about $110 for the game, art book, wall scroll, calendar, coasters, and mug, making it the most expensive video game limited edition I’ve ever purchased! Well, I finally received my copy this month, and I just had to share some photos…
Chic Pixel’s Ultimate 2015 Holiday Gift Guide
The gift-giving season is nearly upon us, which means it’s time to start deciding what you’re going to give your loved ones this holiday! Just like last year, I’ve whipped up a handy guide to cute and nerdy items that make perfect presents… for others, or maybe even for yourself! We all need to treat ourselves every once in a while, right? I’m going to try not to overlap too much with last year’s holiday gift guide, so be sure to check that out too if you’d like even more awesome gift ideas! Read More
