Who is Your Matsu Match?! Osomatsu-san Character Quiz Translation

1 / 27 / 161 / 31 / 16

Osomatsu-san brothers

I’m sure I wasn’t the only person who was floored when otome game publisher Otomate announced they would be making a game adaptation of the popular Osomatsu-san anime. Whether or not the actual game will be a full-fledged otome game that lets you date each of the brothers, it’s undeniable that the series has amassed a huge female fanbase!

In acknowledgement of this, the latest issue of Dengeki Girl’s Style, a magazine dedicated to otome games and related media, has a whole four page article dedicated to the Osomatsu-san anime. In it is an amazing Matsu flowchart reminiscent of teen magazines that I thought was too fun not to share:

Since some folks were interested to know what the chart says, I’ve gone ahead and made a translated version! So, who’s your Matsu love match?

Sunday Spotlight: AnimArchive

1 / 24 / 16

Sunday Spotlight Chic Pixel

This week’s Spotlight is on AnimArchive, a blog that features scans from anime, manga, and video game magazines that go back as early as the 1970s. It’s a ton of fun to look back at old magazines such as these, but unfortunately they’re pretty hard to obtain, especially for those of us outside of Japan. Luckily, the curator of AnimArchive has taken it upon themselves to share scans from their own personal collection, making their blog a must-read for any anime fan!

While I really enjoy looking at all of the various advertisement scans, one of my favorite items on AnimArchive is a scan from a 1993 issue of Animage that shows the voice actors from Sailor Moon visiting actual locations from the anime. How cool is that?!

If you’re at all interested in retro anime, manga, or video games, you won’t want to miss AnimArchive on Tumblr and Twitter!

Chic Pixel’s Favorite Anime Openings of 2015

1 / 5 / 16

Chic Pixel's Favorite Anime Openings of 2015

Many times, my first impression of an anime comes from its opening. They’ve had such an impact on me that at least half of my music library consists of anime opening themes! An opening isn’t just about the music, though: for it to really succeed, it must pair the song with evocative animated sequences that get you excited to watch the upcoming episode. A really good opening has you glued to the screen for the whole duration, and that’s exactly how I felt about the following five anime openings from 2015:

Japan Envy: Nerdy Christmas Cakes

12 / 12 / 15

Japanese Christmas cake Monster Hunter X

Christmas is just around the corner, and in Japan that means reservations for Christmas cakes are everywhere you look. While most western cultures probably associate fruit cakes with Christmas, Japan has popularized a light, usually white cake with strawberries and cream as a common Christmas eve treat. Now, Christmas cakes are so popular that they come in nearly every flavor imaginable, and every decoration imaginable, too! From Monster Hunter to Yowamushi Pedal, all kinds of nerdy fandoms are represented in Christmas cake form… And I’ve rounded up some of the best to share with you today.

Sunday Spotlight: Ataro’s Figure Photography

10 / 25 / 1510 / 25 / 15

Sunday Spotlight Chic Pixel

Can you believe this is the last Sunday Spotlight of October? Before you know it, it’ll be 2016! Ok, I’m going to try not to dwell on the inevitable passage of time. I know just the thing to lift the spirits: cute figure photos!

は、箱買いしてしまった…!

This week’s Spotlight features Ataro, aka ataro878, an amazing figure photographer on Instagram. As far as I can tell, he doesn’t have any other social media or a website, which is a darn shame, but at least there’s one way to ogle his gorgeous photos:

Check out Ataro’s stunning use of color! His main subjects are Nintendo figures such as Link, Kirby, and Splatoon items, but he also features Danbo and a Metal Gear Solid figure quite often, as well (apologies, but at this point I have no idea which Snake is which).

This guy deserves a lot more exposure, so go give him a follow on Instagram if you can!
