We’re celebrating Yakuza Studio’s stellar game library all throughout the month of June, just in time for the English release of Judgement! If you’re new to the Community Game-Along events, each month I pick a different gaming theme here at Chic Pixel. Early in 2018, a permanent Pokémon Café opened in Tokyo, and I was lucky enough to be able to visit it when I was in Japan! It’s been just about a year since I went, but I’m finally getting around to sharing my impressions… with lots of photos, of course!
This month, we’re shifting the Community Game-Along theme focus away from genres of games to a game developer! The theme for May is Game Freak, the Japanese game developer famous for the Pokémon series. But that’s not all! This month is a great time to dive into the rest of their catalog, from Drill Dozer to Pocket Card Jockey.
Sumikko Gurashi: Atsumare! Sumikko Town is the second game featuring Sumikko Gurashi characters to come out on the Nintendo Switch in Japan. The first game, Sumikko Park e Youkoso, was a Mario Party-style party game, while Sumikko Town is a town building game with a few mini-games sprinkled in.
Sumikko Park e Youkoso was adorable, but I ultimately found it rather repetitive, and soon grew tired of it. Does Sumikko: Gurashi: Atsumare! Sumikko Town step up the variety and fill the gap until Animal Crossing comes out on the Switch? Read on to find out!
Spring is in the air in the Northern Hemisphere, which makes it a perfect time to enjoy growing and tending to crops in video games. You won’t even get your hands dirty! That’s right, this month the Community Game-Along is dedicated to farming games!
To participate in the farming game Community Game-Along, play a farming game or game with farming elements and share your thoughts and experiences using #FarmingGameMonth on social media. Blog posts, let’s plays, live streams, photos of your collection, podcasts… All kinds of contributions are welcome!
Now that we’re a third of the way through 2019, it may seem silly to still be looking back at 2018. But the truth is, there’s so much great media from 2018 that I’m still catching up!
While I probably won’t ever be completely caught up on all the games I want to play, manga I want to read, and anime I want to watch, I feel that at this point I’ve been able to sample the 2018 releases I was most interested in and deliver a list of my favorite media from the year.
