During my last trip to the US, I decided I wanted to work on my outdoor photography and video skills. Basically, I’m completely terrified of it! It’s one of those things where I know it’s irrational, but I get very embarrassed whenever I take a photo or video in public. I would really like to work on conquering my fear before my trip to Tokyo next month, when I plan on taking a million photos and videos to share with you! So, while it may not exactly be usual Chic Pixel fare, my most recent upload to my YouTube channel features a little shopping trip to Target!

Ugly Plants Kawaii Shop Review (Plus Discount Code!)
I first became aware of Stasia’s adorable brand Ugly Plants around the release of Pokémon Sun and Moon, when photos of her amazing Mimikyu plushies were circulating around the internet. But I soon found out that Stasia is not only extremely skilled at making plushies of Pokémon and other cute characters, but all kinds of other merchandise, too!
Death Parade Review
This post was made possible by Kit, who purchased me a copy of Death Parade from my Amazon wishlist to review. Thanks so much! For more information on how to sponsor a Chic Pixel review, click here.
I originally became aware of what would eventually become the Death Parade anime through “Death Billiards,” an animated short produced by Madhouse for the Young Animator Training Project’s 2013 Anime Mirai festival. The premise is that whenever someone dies, they are sent to a bar run by an arbiter who judges souls to decide whether someone will be sent to “heaven” or “hell.” While each bar is different, arbiter Decim’s bar is where two souls who passed away at the same time are sent. When they arrive, their bodies are in such shock that they often don’t remember everything about themselves, let alone the fact that they are dead. In order to best judge each person’s character, Decim pits his patrons against one another in various games, from billiards to darts and even fighting games.
Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp is Out Now in Australia!
Did you tune in to the 15 minute Nintendo Direct dedicated entirely to the long-awaited Animal Crossing mobile game that aired yesterday? The game, titled Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, was finally unveiled, with a worldwide release slated for late November. However, it turns out that Australians get to play the game early! It’s already available to download on both the Google Play Store and iOS App Store in Australia, so I jumped on the opportunity to try out the game. (Pokémon Go was also released in Australia and Japan before other territories, so it seems like we’re a popular spot to test out apps before their worldwide release)
Check out the above video to see a little over 10 minutes of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp in action! I share my current campsite, visiting villagers, all the different areas you can explore in the game, and more! My first impression from the Nintendo Direct was that the game seemed way more involved than I had previously assumed an Animal Crossing mobile game would be, and so far the game itself is living up to that.
As you may know, I’m a huge fan of Animal Crossing and even purchased the Japanese limited edition Animal Crossing: New Leaf 3DS XL back in 2012 so I could play the game before it came out in English! While Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp is not a completely fleshed-out Animal Crossing game in that some of the customization is stripped away (you can’t make your own clothing or decor patterns at this point in time, for example), but it’s dripping with the same adorable charm.
What do you think of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp so far? Does it look like it’s going to live up to a proper Animal Crossing release, or will it fall prey to microtransactions? Share your thoughts in the comments!

Instant Japanese Pudding Candy Video
Hello from Florida! If you’re following me on Twitter or Instagram, you’ve probably noticed that I’ve been traveling in the US the past week. I’m on a short trip to visit some family, which means not as much time for blogging… But I was extra prepared and filmed two whole Apricotsushi Samples videos in advance! This is the first, where I try out an instant Japanese pudding candy called Purin Gokko.
I actually almost didn’t upload this video because right at the very beginning there is a period where my face is out of focus. I didn’t even realize until after I left the country… The problem with these candy videos is it’s hard to redo them if something gets messed up, because you can only make something once. This kit was specifically requested by a reader for me to do, so despite the fact that I feel a little unhappy with the quality, I’m publishing it anyway! Don’t worry, though, most of the video is in focus and maybe you aren’t even as picky as me and won’t notice the blurriness at the beginning (but you will most definitely notice now that I’ve told you!). Hopefully Pai Pai’s special appearance makes up for it!
If you do end up enjoying the video regardless of the technical issues, please consider sharing it with a friend! It helps me out a lot!
