Wonder Festival is an amazing bi-yearly event for fans of Japanese figures, and this year’s winter Wonder Festival was no different! Just like last year, I wanted to round up some of my favorite announcements from the event. Now, on to my own personal highlights!
March means something very special at Chic Pixel… It’s time for the Monster Hunter Community Game-Along! Even though Monster Hunter has gotten pretty mainstream, especially with the release of Monster Hunter: World, there’s no denying that the series has some notoriety for its complicated systems and lack of in-game explanations. I started the Monster Hunter Community Game-Along to highlight the Monster Hunter series and the wide range of games that emulate the Monster Hunter style in hopes that I could encourage more people to play what has become one of my favorite series.

I was prepared for January’s Fighting Game Community Game-Along to be very quiet, partially due to the theme, and partially due to the time of year. But I was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of people participate this year! Check out what what fighting games people played for some game recommendations, fun photos, and gameplay videos!
After picking up a Nintendo Switch last July, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the right Japanese game to be my first import purchase for the system. Since the Switch is region free, that means it’s much easier (and cheaper!) than importing things for the Nintendo 3DS. When I heard San-X’s adorable Sumikko Gurashi characters would be getting a Switch game, titled Sumikko Gurashi: Sumikko Park e Youkoso, I knew that I’d have to pick it up!
The Animal Crossing Ichiban Kuji is coming out in Japan on March 17th, and the prizes are drop-dead adorable! It’s a great excuse to bring back my Japan Envy series! Oh, 2017! I don’t think I’m the only one who was ready for 2017 to be over come December 31st. At the same time, there were a couple of really great things that happened to me in 2017! In lieu of separate favorite games/anime/whatever of 2017 posts, I’ve decided to round up all my favorites into an all-encompassing Best of 2017 post. Who doesn’t love pins these days? It seems like pins are all the rage with independent artists lately, and I’m not complaining! There’s no shortage of cute geeky pins available, but one of my personal favorite companies is Soul Piece Labs. I’ve purchased five pins from them now, and I figured it was high time I did a proper review!
