Wonder Festival, a bi-yearly event for Japanese figure enthusiasts, is upon us once again! With each WonFes comes an onslaught of figure-related news, and there is a lot to get excited about this year. Plastikitty has a full rundown of all the figures at this weekend’s event, but I’ve rounded up some of my favorite figure announcements and reveals to share with you!
I think we can all agree 2016 was more than a bit of a doozy, but for now we can take some time to reflect on the good times we had throughout the year. As I was compiling this list, I realized that though I may not have consumed as much media in 2016 as I have in years past, the things I did read, watch, and play were all pretty memorable.
Perhaps I’m getting better at spending my free time on things I enjoy, rather than wasting it on things I don’t?! If I have any goals for 2017, it’s to keep that as my mantra and dump anything I’m not thoroughly enjoying – it’s just not worth the time! But for now, I encourage you to read on to see what I enjoyed most in 2016, and share your favorites in the comments!
The holiday shopping madness is now in full swing! Luckily, it’s easy to get in on some great deals without having to manage high-tension shopping crowds, or, if you’re like me, live in a country that doesn’t really do the whole Black Friday/Cyber Monday thing. With so many good deals flying around, I’ve decided to round up my favorites to share! From cute, nerdy apparel and accessories to discount games and figures, there’s more than enough here to get your holiday shopping out of the way or treat yourself for being awesome!
It’s time for the third annual Chic Pixel Holiday Gift Guide! I always really enjoy doing these because I often get ideas for my own personal wish list, so you know everything I include has the official Chic Pixel stamp of approval! Whether you’re looking for a gift for an otaku, gamer, or fan of all things kawaii, I’ve got you covered in this year’s gift guide. This time around I’ve arranged things in order of price, starting with items on the more expensive side going all the way down to stocking stuffer ideas for under $10. There’s a gift idea for every budget!
Everyone needs a pick-me-up sometimes. Be it because you’re overworked, overstressed, or overwhelmed with current events, sometimes it’s necessary to step away from life’s obligations and read, watch, or play something to lift your spirits and remind you of the good things in life. That’s why I’ve compiled a list of anime, comics, and video games that give me the warm fuzzies to share with you today!
But the last thing I want is for you to have to hunt down an old DVD or wait for a game to arrive from Amazon when you’re feeling blue, so I’ve made every sure item on this list is available legally for free. Sit back, grab a cup of tea, and enjoy some of the best nerdy comfort media the internet has to offer!
If you’re a long-time Chic Pixel reader, you know I’m a big fan of subscription boxes. When the folks at the nerdy subscriptions service Loot Crate mentioned that they were looking to see what dream subscription box themes people could come up with, I knew I had to answer the call. Besides, there’s even a chance they’ll be selecting one lucky blogger’s crate theme to make into a future month’s crate! I have no shortage of fun ideas I’d like to see in a subscription box, but I managed to narrow it down to one core theme: otome (乙女).
The term otome is most often used among English speakers in relation to “otome games,” but it literally means “maiden,” so it can refer to anything that might appeal to someone with maiden-like sensibilities! But since this is me, all of my otome items have a decidedly nerdy twist. Basically, this dream loot crate consists of everything I love, be it cute lifestyle items, otome game merchandise, or shojo anime figurines!
Makeup isn’t usually my wheelhouse, but the new custom eyeshadow palette feature on Shu Uemura’s Japanese website, My Color Atelier, was too cute not to check out. Simply plug in an image of your choice and it will spit out four complementary Shu Uemura eyeshadows, making it great for whipping up some unique looks!
After seeing a lot of anime and manga-inspired palettes being shared on Twitter with the official hashtag #shuカラーホリック, I was inspired to try my own. Since Cardcaptor Sakura already has some of the cutest illustrations around and I’m in full Sakura fervor thanks to the gorgeous 20th anniversary figure, I figured it would be a perfect candidate for the My Color Atelier. Let’s see how they turned out!
