I just stumbled upon the most adorable gaming Tumblr! It’s called Gourmet Gaming, and not only does it have a super catchy name and cute pixelated background, but it features weekly recipes for food found in all sorts of video games. There’s everything from the iconic sandwiches from Deadly Premonition to the famous chocolate energy bars of Deus Ex. My favorite so far, however, is the birthday cake from Animal Crossing: Wild World. Don’t you want to eat it right up?
I love how each recipe begins with a story about the game and is concluded with a lovely photo comparing the real version to the in-game food item. Though this cake looks delicious and is certainly one of the dishes I find most appealing personally (because, I admit it, I love Animal Crossing), the dish that I would most likely cook myself would have to be the starkos from Beyond Good and Evil. Which is another amazing game, by the way, and it’s great to see it get some recognition!
Head on over and give Gourmet Gaming some love! What’s your favorite recipe?
Oh my gosh, I didn’t see this recipe when I was there! I’d looooooove to make this cake 🙂
BTW, you’re right about the tumblog’s pixelated background — so cute!
Back to Animal Crossing, though — I actually had a discussion w/ my husband last night in which I seriously suggested I not buy the 3DS version when it comes out. I was scarily obsessed with the Wii version after it came out and played it every single day for at least 9 months. I finally had to give it up cold turkey — and I haven’t played it since.
As tiring as it was (keeping up with everything the game threw at me), I absolutely loved it, so of course I’ll buy and play the 3DS version as soon as possible.
Have you seen some of the Dragon Quest-inspired food you can get a Ludia’s bar in Roppongi, Tokyo?
Last time I was in Japan I really, really wanted to go, but the entry line up was so long 🙁
Bryan, I had no idea you were so obsessed with Animal Crossing! I admit that though I love the games I don’t think I’ve put in near as much time as you. It’d be a real shame if you let your slightly-obsessive behavior towards the game ruin your chances of playing the 3DS version, though! Just think of it like this, at least you’ll be able to take the 3DS with you… Oh, wait, but you work from home, so the portability doesn’t really matter much, huh?
Hey GamesAndBiz! I’ve heard about the DQ-inspired food but I haven’t been there myself! I love all the themed cafes they have in Japan. Honestly, it’s a great idea! We should open one in Australia
I was shamefully Googling myself and I came across your post on Gourmet Gaming and I have to say it’s one of the loveliest entries that I’ve read about the site.
If it’s okay can I link to your post on the website?
Thanks again for your kind words and I’m glad you enjoy!
Wow, thanks for stopping by, Daniella! I absolutely adore Gourmet Gaming!
Of course you may post a link on your website. Come to think of it, I’ll do the same!
